Elaine Shemilt established the Printmaking Department of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 1988 and is currently Professor of Fine Art Printmaking. She is a graduate of Winchester School of Art and the Royal College of Art, and has exhibited internationally including in Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, Canada, USA, Australia, Italy and Germany including at the Hayward Gallery, the Institute of Contemporary Art, London and the Edinburgh Festival. Her work has addressed issues of environmental protection in remote environments, genetic coding relating to image pattern and sound sequencing, the translation and legibility and of images created from microscopic scientific data.
