Double Her: The Female Body as Political Image

Double Her: The Female Body as Political Image
Workshop with Catherine Spencer
Wednesday 6 November, 5.30–7.30pm
Cooper Gallery

As part of the Event Series for The Pleasure of Expense, Researcher and Lecturer Dr. Catherine Spencer leads a free workshop.

The workshop will respond to Jasmina Cibic’s exhibition by considering it in relation to a range of performance art and activism that has deployed individual and collective bodies to question architectures of hard as well as soft power, in both urban sites and the countryside. Looking at a diverse array of interventions by practitioners from VALIE EXPORT to Regina José Galindo, as well as those by collectives including Women’s International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell (W.I.T.C.H), it will also consider the visual impact of political actions such as the women’s peace camp at Greenham Common, asking what are the possibilities of, and challenges for, gestures that are often inherently transitory when interrogating the physical infrastructures of the state, military and market.

Places are free and can be booked by emailing exhibitions@dundee.ac.uk
