Collaborating with an Event - at the Royal College of Art

We would like to invite you to this event at the Royal College of Art in London which is an extension of the Cooper Gallery Writers in Residence project An Action of Words, which accompanied A CUT A SCRATCH A SCORE - a comic opera in three parts. More info about that project...

An Action of Words:

Collaborating with an Event

26 - 29 March 2012

Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, London SW7 2EU

Over 4 days Collaborating with an Event will explore the persistence and mediation of an event through the practice of writing. Building upon the proposition that critical writing can perform as a textual afterlife to an event, Collaborating with an Event will be a live process developing, demonstrating and discussing potential methodologies.

The 4 days will include two special events; an ‘in conversation’ event exploring ‘Writing in Situ’ with Brian Dillon, Sally O’Reilly and Jane Rendell and a live interview with Bruce McLean, featuring two of McLean’s films; Urban Turban, A Moving Picture (1997) and Waiter Waiter There’s A Sculpture in My Soup (1970).

An Action of Words began life as part of the curatorial framework for A CUT A SCRATCH A SCORE a project by David Barnett, Sam Belinfante and Bruce McLean (Cooper Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD) Dundee 2011). Initiated by the Cooper Gallery at DJCAD, the premise of An Action of Words was to provide a live critical space in which observations, reflections and associated ideas could be made publicly legible and collectively explored through text, discussion and other media.

Collaborating with an Event is a continuation of this approach, but instead of operating in tandem to a live event it will now be in relation to an event mediated as a documentary artefact.
