New Mobile Shop Unit
Photo opportunities available at launch event: 6 - 8pm, Friday 23rd September, Lower Foyer
Gallery
For the first time at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) there will be the
opportunity for the public to buy art work by students, staff and graduates all year round. The
Exhibitions Department will launch its new commission, "Mobile Shop Unit" (MSU) in the Lower Foyer
Gallery, DJCAD, Friday 23 September, 6-8pm.
The unit, a mobile 'art stall' on wheels, will rotate between a number of different locations
throughout DJCAD selling a variety of artworks including paintings, jewellery, posters, artist
publications, audio work, artist videos, small sculptures and textile works. It will also keep a
stock of art magazines and Exhibitions Department’s ‘discparc’ audio label releases.
Designed and built by Roddy Mathieson and Jason Nelson, two staff at Duncan of Jordanstone College
of Art and Design, MSU can sell work of up to 20 staff, students and graduates at a time, with the
stock and artists changing every 3 months.
The first pieces of work on sale include a poster based on John Lennon & Yoko Ono's Peace Campaign
in the early 70s, hand-painted tiles and a range of water colours.
Jenny Brownrigg, the curator of Exhibitions Department said, "We are delighted to have found a way
to show the range of work that is produced by staff and students of DJCAD and by the graduates who
have moved on to forge their own careers. Traditionally the only opportunity for the public to buy
such work was at Degree Show time but now we have a dedicated shop area which will be open all year
round. MSU also gives students an earlier opportunity to learn about selling work."
Mobile Shop Unit Opening Hours - 9.30-5pm, Mon- Fri. Closed Saturdays.
