University welcomes prized piano soloist

Photo opportunities: 1.30pm, Wednesday 20 October, Music Centre, West Bell Street, Dundee, 7.00pm, Thursday 21 October, Bonar Hall, Dundee

One of Scotland's most exciting young solo pianists, Joseph Fleetwood will hold a piano master-class for local schoolchildren before he performs in the first of the University of Dundee's evening concert series.

The schoolchildren taking part in tomorrow's master-class will perform a piece of music and discuss it with Dundee born, Joseph who will offer practical guidance on how they can further advance their skills.

Joseph will also entertain the public with a magical performance in the first of the new series of evening concerts on Thursday 21 October at the Bonar Hall.

The evening's programme includes:

Sonata in C Hob XVI:50 (Hadyn)
Sonata in f Op57 "Appassionata" (Beethoven)
Ballade in g (Chopin)
Sonata in e (Greig)
Trez Danzas Argentinas (Ginastera)

Born in 1980 Joseph Fleetwood studied at the renowned Royal College of Music in London. Since his debut performance in 1991 he has gone on to play extensively as a soloist and accompanist. He is much in demand as an accompanist after being awarded the RSAMD Lieder prize aged only 19.

Recent concerto appearances include Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini, Grieg, Beethoven's Emperor Concerto as well as his London debut at the Royal College of Music playing Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue. He has received funding from Satellite Workspace, the Virtuosi Society and has just completed a solo recital tour of Scotland and London, in association with Bluthner Pianos (London) and Brian Anderson Pianos (Scotland).

Graeme Stevenson, University of Dundee's Music Co-ordinator said, "We are delighted to welcome Joseph for the first show in the new evening concert series. This is a fantastic opportunity for the public to experience one of the country's up and coming performers on their doorstep."
