More Chinese students bound for Dundee

A group of visiting Chinese professors will attend a signing ceremony at the University of Dundee on Wednesday which will bring a score of engineering students from Beijing to complete their degrees in Dundee.

This is the latest in a series of links between the University of Dundee and China which this year saw a record number of 276 Chinese students registered at the University of Dundee. These include 186 new students and 18 distance learners. A further link up with Zhejiang Wanli University is expected to lead to a further 150 students a year coming into accountancy, applied computing, economics, electronic engineering, English language and environmental management from October 2002.

The four professors from Beijing Polytechnic University, are Vice President, Professor Cheng Jing; dean Professor Chen Jianxin; vice dean Professor Bao Chang-Chun and director of international exchange Professor Cai Zunan.

They will sign the document with Vice Principal of the University of Dundee Professor David Swinfen which will lead to 20 students from Beijing Polytechnic entering the third year of undergraduate programmes in electronic and electrical engineering from next October.

The signing comes at the start of a three day visit during with the Chinese guests will tour the department of electrical and electronic engineering as well as the English Language Centre at the University, meeting staff and students and taking an in depth look at ongoing research./ends
