National appointment for local surgeon

Robin Blair head of the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Dundee and consultant ear nose and throat surgeon at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School has been elected president of the section of laryngology and rhinology of the Royal Society of Medicine in London.

Mr Blair is former clinical director of ENT Surgery in Tayside. He graduated in medicine at Edinburgh University and trained in Edinburgh and in Toronto, Canada. He worked as a consultant in the teaching hospitals of the University of Toronto for ten years before returning to Scotland to take up his current post in 1984.

Mr Blair has also been appointed chairman of the Speciality Advisory Committee in Otolaryngology of the Joint Committee of Higher Surgical Training of Great Britain and Ireland. This post, which involves responsibility for the supervision and inspection of training of young ear, nose and throat surgeons throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland is a three year appointment.

In July 2001 Mr Blair will be hosting a joint meeting of the ear nose and throat sections of the Royal Society of Medicine and the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. Top ENT surgeons from Britain, the United States and Canada will be attending.
