Giorgio Zanone, a top Italian designer will visit the University of Dundee tomorrow to present the Orsini design awards to printed textile students at Duncan of Jordanstone.

Heather Buchan who will graduate this summer will be presented with the first prize - tickets for an all expenses paid trip to Milan to work with design company Orsini.

Course director Andy Taylor said: "It is great for our students that designers from such a successful company are coming to meet the students and view their work. The students have started to hang their degree exhibits so we will have an interesting range of work for our students and visitors to discuss."

Duncan of Jordanstone's link with Orsini and Hugh Parsons Ltd began three years ago when they established the competition at the college to encourage designs for ties. Hugh Parsons is a "niche" handmaker of ties in London established in 1925. Orsini is reputedly the largest tie manufacturer in the world, selling over 3,000,000 ties a year under names such as Gucci, Dunhill and Givenchy.

Seven runners up will be awarded prizes for the high standard of their entries. Kate Knight, Pauline Rogers, Mervi Vayryen, Sarah Jacobs, Ashley Gibb, Allister Smith and Amy Young will each receive £50.
