Double Benefit for University Students

Press Release from Dundee University Students' Association.

Dundee University Students' Association today announced two drives to provide for the welfare of its students and the local community.

The Association's Information and Support Service launched a weeklong campaign aimed at asking students to drink sensibly. Chris Bustin, Deputy President said: "We are in no way telling students not to drink- we are just asking them to think about the amount of alcohol they consume and whether it is healthy for them to do this. We have a duty to ensure that our students are made aware of all the facts surrounding this issue, and we are there to offer help and support if someone does feel they are drinking too much".

The Association has promoted the campaign by using resource materials from the Portman Group and from Coca-Cola, who have both donated t-shirts, baseball caps, key rings and pens to the Information and Support Service Office for use in the campaign.

The Information and Support Service has also announced today that over £3500 has been raised for local charities by students this year. The organisations to benefit include Guide Dogs for the Blind, the Meningitis Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Rachel House Hospice. Chris Bustin said: "It is a tribute to the generosity of our students that we have been able to collect this amount. Our original target for the year was £1500 and we have managed to more than double that figure. I am grateful to everyone who has helped us to raise this amount".
