A former scaffolder will graduate from the University of Dundee this month after deciding to take his career further and pursue a degree in civil engineering.

Stephen Gallagher (32) from Dundee decided he wanted to study for a degree to provide a more prosperous future for his son Conner (6) and daughter Caragh (4). Stephen entered the University through an access year at Dundee college. He will graduate on Friday 12 July in the Caird Hall with a Bachelor of Engineering.

Stephen said: "My wife was very supportive of my decision to go to University. She got the studying bug and is now at college studying accounts.

It was a great four years at University. I met a lot of nice people and thoroughly enjoyed my course."

Stephen has secured a job as an offshore engineer with Global Santa Fe starting in September.

Stephen's wife will attend his graduation ceremony in the Caird Hall and he will celebrate afterwards with his family.
