Students match academic achievements with charity efforts

Photo Opportunity: Wednesday 10 July, 1pm, Dundee University Students' Association, Airlie Place, Dundee. DUSA President Matthew Marr and Deputy President Chris Bustin will present cheques to representatives of various charities.

Dundee University students yesterday took time out from preparing for graduation to donate a four-figure sum of money to several local charities.

Willie Bald, Assistant Chief Constable of Tayside Police representing the Tayside Police Benevolent Fund, Susan Ramsay, of Macmillan Cancer Relief, The Cat Protection League, and Wendy Strathearn from Victim Support Tayside each received a cheque for £300. The money was raised through various fundraising drives, including a coffee morning and regular collections.

Chris Bustin, Deputy President, who has been responsible for co-ordinating these efforts, said:

"Even over the past few months as Dundee University students have been focussed on their exams, and now their graduations, they have again showed their generous side.

"We are always delighted to strengthen links between students and the community, and so are glad to support these very worthwhile causes."
