Best brass in Britain plays at the University

The first of this season's evening concerts at the University of Dundee will kick off on Thursday with the highly-acclaimed Athenaeum Brass Music performing works by Henry VIII, Handel, Prokofiev, Shostakovitch, Bizet and Gershwin.

Athenaeum Brass was formed in 1985, and has since developed a reputation for being one of the finest and most versatile brass ensembles in Britain. The members of the group are drawn from professional players based in Glasgow, all of who play regularly with major orchestras and ensembles in Scotland and elsewhere.

Athenaeum Brass has given music club recitals all over Scotland and has undertaken many engagements for the Council of Music in Hospitals. The ensemble has been featured on numerous radio and television broadcasts, including the BBC's Songs of Praise and has appeared at the Edinburgh International Festival.

University Music Co-ordinator Graeme Stevenson said, "Our concerts are appreciated by music lovers, critics and anyone looking for an enjoyable evening out. The University has a long history of providing quality musical events for the public and this concert promises to be a lively and enthralling performance."
