New Curator of Museum Collections

Matthew Jarron, the former Curator of the St Andrews Preservation Trust Museum, has recently been appointed Curator of Museum Collections at the University of Dundee. He took up the post last week, having been working for the National Museums of Scotland in the two months since leaving the Trust Museum.

"I'm honoured to be taking on this new job," said Matthew yesterday. "The collections here are extraordinarily diverse, including chemistry, psychology and zoology. Perhaps most exciting is the art collection, which includes Raeburn, Gainsborough and Peploe, as well as many former pupils and staff from Duncan of Jordanstone."

The University currently has no central museum, but Matthew will be responsible for displays in many of the departments and a programme of temporary exhibitions, all of which are open to the public. "One of my major concerns is to increase people's awareness of the collections," Matthew explained. "Although they are used a lot for teaching and research within the University, I would like to reach out to a much wider audience."

If you are interested in knowing more about the collections, please contact Matthew on 01382 344310 during working hours.
