University cracks down on crime
In a determined bid to protect students and staff, the University of
Dundee has introduced a major CCTV system on its main city centre campus to
help stamp out crime.
Commenting on the new scheme, University security manager Stewart
Davidson said:
"While crime levels in the University are relatively low, we want to
send out a simple message - crime will not be tolerated. The University of
Dundee has to protect itself, its students and staff from all types of
risk, and crime is one such risk. We know from experience that thieves
are targeting car parks outside the range of the city centre cameras so our
equipment covers University car parks as well as roads, paths and
buildings throughout the campus. CCTV is one a series of measures we are taking to demonstrate our 'zero tolerance' towards crime and our commitment to the safety of staff and students."
The cameras were installed following consultation with Tayside Police
And are of the same high technical standard as those in the Dundee city
centre, Perth and Angus schemes. Commenting further on the system, Mr Davidson noted "As a major employer and 'community within the community' the University of Dundee is keen to play its part in reducing crime in
Dundee and making the city centre area a safer and more secure environment."
