New exhibition looks at the dark side

Photo opportunity: 5.15pm, Tuesday 13 April, Lower Foyer Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Perth Road, Dundee

Trevor Gordon's striking latex bodysuits will feature amongst other pieces of work at 'GHG', an exhibition of new work by three Fine Art students of University of Dundee's Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. The exhibition runs from Tuesday 13 - Thursday 22 April and entrance is free and open to the public.

With roots in the Iraq conflict, Trevor Gordon's work is likely to shock anyone from the art novice to the most regular exhibition connoisseur. Trevor will display his eight-foot tall latex bodysuits, fully equipped with biological warfare suits, reminiscent of the images displayed on our television screens during the war. Visitors can also come face to face with a number of body parts that Trevor has created from latex and resin.

Dundee born, Francis Glancy's atmospheric paintings have a similarly dark theme. Acting out the role of the voyeur, the viewer can look into a series of rooms and corridors and experience the solitude and eeriness of the images, evoking memories of momentous horror films, such as Hitchcock's 'Psycho'. After unravelling the images alone, the viewer will feel the sinister undertones of Francis’s work.

Using natural materials such as earth rocks and wood, Greg Hutchison will display his works including his 'artificial micro-climate', housed in Perspex that explores nature and landscape.

The public will also have the opportunity to see a number of natural history specimens, including skulls and other taxidermy exhibits kindly on loan from the McManus Galleries, Dundee.

Both Trevor and Francis plan to stay and work as artists in Dundee after they graduate.

The Tay Bridge Bar, Perth Road, Dundee is sponsoring the exhibition. For further information contact the University of Dundee Exhibitions Department on 01382 345330 or email exhibitions@dundee.ac.uk.
