Local alumni invited back to University

Photo opportunity: 5.15pm, Thursday 22 April, Reception, Tower Building, University of Dundee.

Over 6,000 people who studied at the University of Dundee have been invited back to the University for the first meeting of the Dundee University Local Alumni (DULA) club launch. Established by a group of local graduates, DULA will offer alumni the opportunity to get back in touch with the University, meet old friends and acquaintances and take part in a number of organised events.

BBC radio and television presenter, graduate and outgoing Rector of the University, Fred MacAulay, will welcome graduates of the University or those who have studied at the University for a year or more to the launch on 25 May. University Principal, Sir Alan Langlands and Lord Provost of Dundee, John Letford will also welcome alumni to an informal drinks reception in the University's Bonar Hall to kick-start a programme of events for alumni in the Dundee area.

Already, 6,000 alumni, all living in the Dundee area have been invited to attend the informal launch but as Brian Cairns, Chair of the DULA Steering Committee explains. "We are positive that those who have lost touch with the University over the years would like to attend the launch and possibly take part in and suggest ideas for future events, so we urge them to get in contact." Brian continues, "This is an opportunity to renew old acquaintances, meet new faces and find out about new developments at the University but our main goal is to make sure everyone involved has fun."

Dianne Pemberton-Pigott, Head of Alumni Relations said, "With alumni establishing groups across the globe, the University is delighted that a group of local graduates have set up the Dundee University Local Alumni club. We hope this will encourage people to get back in touch with the University and offer our current students the wealth of their experience, both from their own time at University and from their chosen careers. The University wishes the group every success for the future."

Alumni of all ages who live in the Dundee area and are interested in attending the DULA launch and possibly taking part in further events over the year should contact Alumni Relations on 01382 344822 or email alumni@dundee.ac.uk.

Members of the committee will be at the photo opportunity. See above.
