Fred MacAulay to be installed in traditional ceremony

Shoppers and pedestrians in Dundee can look forward to a colourful spectacle on Thursday (3 May) when broadcaster and comedian Fred MacAulay will be officially installed as Rector of the University of Dundee.

Following the usual tradition, the Rector will be hauled through the city centre in a dark blue carriage by 12 scarlet gowned students with occasional stops for refreshment en route.

The itinerary leaves City Square at 2pm and will follow a route through the Nethergate,up South Tay Street and Old Hawkhill before turning down Park Place to arrive at the Bonar Hall at 3.30.

There at 4pm the Rector will be installed by the Vice Chancellor Sir Alan Langlands and deliver his address to an audience of students, invited guests and members of the public.
