New ideas awards for University of Dundee

Deputy Principal of the University of Dundee David Boxer today welcomed the announcement of funding packages in the Proof of Concepts awards in which Dundee has successfully bid for a share of £5.4 million for four of their leading edge research projects.

Three University of Dundee projects, and a joint fourth, have been awarded grants in a round of awards designed to turn innovative ideas into great commercial successes. The scope of the projects - from system-on-chip technology and flat panel display developments to cancer research - have great potential for business and for the future of research.

One of the projects to receive an award is the development of novel compounds which act selectively on tumours. Dr Barbara Spruce and her team believe their research has broad therapeutic potential in the treatment of cancer and a number of other fatal diseases.

This is the latest success for the University of Dundee in commercial enterprise. Minister for Lifelong Learning Wendy Alexander last month opened the Centre for Enterprise Management to harness intellectual capital and catalyse a quick turn-around to commercial success.ENDS
