Lip at the Fringe

For the third year in succession the University of Dundee’s Lip Theatre Company have taken their talent to Edinburgh’s Fringe festival.

Twenty members of the lively University group raise the curtain at St John’s Church Hall (Venue 126) on Monday (17 August) with three short black comedies written, produced and performed by their members. They hope their six day run at the West End venue will repeat their sell out success of last year.

Computing student and secretary to the group Steph Giles said from Edinburgh: 'We’re really excited to be here. Stressed but excited ! We’re still rehearsing furiously and there are about 13 of us trying to stay in one Leith flat but we’re looking forward to opening next week.'

The plays - In Memoriam, One Last Dream and Desire - tackle subjects ranging from a commercialised third World War to the Afterlife, with characters including angels, casuals and Peter Mandelson. They have been written by University of Dundee graduate Martin Lennon, student Peader Callaghan and a graduate under the pen name of 'Monty Springs'.

Lip Theatre Company has some 30 members and meets weekly in the main hall of Dundee University Students Association.

Lip appear at St John’s Church Hall,West End, Princes Street from 17-22 August at 3-5pm each day.
