Professor Sir Hans Kornberg is to be awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD) in recognition of his contribution to the development of antibiotics through his pioneering research into how bacteria works. In addition to his personal contribution, Professor Sir Kornberg has chaired numerous royal commissions.

Although born in Germany, Professor Sir Kornberg was educated in England which was also where he took up his first professorship, at the University of Cambridge. He is now University Professor and Professor of Biology at Boston University, USA.
