Literary Salons return for new season
The popular Dundee Literary Salons series returns next week with a new venue and a new line up of inspiring figures from
the world of words.
Events celebrating theatre, fiction and poetry and championing new writers in all these genres will take place at Dundee
Central Library from September to December. The new programme will be launched on Thursday, 26th September when Mark Robson,
Chair of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Dundee and an award-winning playwright, discusses theatre and
 performance.
Peggy Hughes, of Literary Dundee, said, 'We're excited to be hosting our Literary Salons in partnership with Dundee
Libraries for the first time, and there really is no better place to celebrate the transformative power of books than in
 a library.
'With a range of different themes and guests, and an informal welcoming atmosphere, the salons are a brilliant, open space
for community, inspiration, books and banter. Whether you are an inspiring writer or just someone who loves prose, poetry or
plays, you will find a warm welcome at the Salons.'
The rest of the 2013 programme is:
- October 3rd - National Poetry Day celebration with poets Eunice Buchanan and Ellie McDonald.

- November 28th - Livewire! A showcase of work from Creative Writing students.

- December 12th - Christmas Soiree hosted by novelist Zoe Venditozzi.

The Literary Salons enable members of the local community to meet with publishers, writers and agents to discuss writing,
culture and ideas in an environment that is informed but informal. The salons, now in their 6th year, are organised by
Literary Dundee and are a key element of the University-led initiative's efforts to promote literature and nurture new
 writers in the city.
The Mark Robson event takes place at Dundee Central Library from 6pm on Thursday, 26th September. This event will be
hosted by Kirsty Gunn, Professor of Creative Writing at the University and an internationally acclaimed novelist.
Refreshments will be provided at the Literary Salons, which are free, open to all, and hosted by members of the
literary community. More information about the series can be found at
