A vision of Dundee and its central waterfront in 2030 will be presented at this year's University of Dundee Architecture Degree Show.

The transformative properties of architectural design and how it shapes our lives and the future of Dundee is explored at the Degree Show, which takes place from Saturday May 18th to Saturday May 25th.

This year's Architecture Degree Show showcases innovative design work illustrated by full scale building installations, intricate scale models, computer renderings and other media to ask big questions about the future design of our city and the wider societal challenges faced by us all;

  • What might be the urban quality of the new Dundee Central Waterfront?
  • How do you create 'energy-autonomous' buildings?
  • How can we intelligently regenerate our historic buildings?
  • Architecture as primarily art or science?

"We are displaying graduate work from over 100 students this year and it is exceptional in both the range of design problems tackled at a local level and how these translate to a wider cultural view," said Graeme Hutton, Professor of Architecture at the University.

"The students are exploring issues that really matter such as designs for future schools, elderly care and community housing as well as proposing a façade strategy for the new Central Waterfont. This is based on research which identifies what is unique about the architecture and urban character of Dundee. A large scale model and computer generated renderings help convey the ideas proposed. It shows V&A at Dundee in a whole new context", he added.

"Architecture is not an exact science, it is an exact art. Come and find out what it's all about!"

The show takes place from Saturday May 18th to Saturday May 25th in the Matthew Building, Level 6, Perth Road, Dundee. The Waterfront Design Room is at the south west of level 6. The show is open to the public and is free.
