Graduation 2013 - Record breaking Chris tallies up a dozen firsts

University of Dundee Accountancy graduate Chris Parry has tallied up a record breaking perfect sweep of first class marks on his way to gaining his degree this week.

Chris (29), from Kinross, is the first person in the 25-year history of the Bachelor of Accountancy degree at Dundee to record a clean sweep of first class marks in all twelve papers that students have to complete. He will receive his degree at the morning ceremony in the Caird Hall on Wednesday June 19th.

Not only did Chris break the previous record of eleven firsts, he also achieved an extraordinary average score across all the papers of the top (A1) grade in the first class range.

'The staff on the course told me at the end of my third year that I had six 'A's' and that no one had ever gone on to a clean sweep of twelve top marks,' said Chris, who graduates on Wednesday morning.

'Obviously I am very happy I managed to do that!'

Now that Chris has graduated he is set to take up a position with chartered accountants Henderson Loggie.

Professor David Collison, of the University's School of Business, said, 'As usual we have had a number of excellent performances amongst our graduating students this year, but Chris's achievements have been remarkable. The Bachelor of Accountancy Degree is very varied; it includes the assimilation and analysis of complex financial data, as well as the critical study of a wide literature covering many aspects of business and society. Chris obviously performed at the highest level across the whole discipline.'

Chris has been awarded several prizes in the course of his degree including the Accounting and Finance Prize for the best senior Honours student, the Alliance Trust Prize for the best senior Honours student in the Accountancy stream, and the George Stout Memorial Prize (joint winner), which is sponsored by the Alliance Trust.
