Lecture to go where penguins fear to tread

Travel writer and biographer Sara Wheeler will take her audience on a journey to where penguins fear to tread when she appears at the University of Dundee later this month.

She will deliver the latest instalment of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society's 'Inspiring People' lecture series on Tuesday, February 5th.

Sara's illustrated talk will uncover the beautiful, brutal reality of the Polar regions, and see her share stories about the time she has spent in Antarctica and the Arctic. In addition to personal anecdotes, she will explain the differences between the two regions by looking at the science of the remotest and harshest environments on the planet.

Her book, 'Terra Incognita: Travels in Antarctica', is based on the seven months she spent in Antarctica as the writer-in-residence of the US National Science Foundation. During this time, she spent a night sleeping in the captain's bunk in Scott's Hut.

'Where Penguins Fear To Tread' takes place at the D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre, Tower Building, at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 5th. Tickets are available at the door, and cost £8 for adults or are free for students, under-18s and RSGS members.

This talk is kindly sponsored by the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers.
