Rugby internationalists flying the flag for University

The University of Dundee will be well represented when Scotland play Italy in the first ever women's rugby international to take place in the city this weekend.

The 6 Nations clash takes place at Mayfield Sports Grounds, home of Dundee High School FP on Sunday, 10th February. Suzi McKerlie-Hex, a postgraduate student student at the University is in the squad for the match, as are Laura Steven and Annabel Sergeant, both of whom graduated from Dundee.

Suzi is a current Dundee University Sports Scholar and is the sixth student or graduate of the University to represent her country at full international level in the past five years. Dundee University Women's Rugby Club, the current Scottish Universities champions who also play in the Scottish Premier League (B), has been the most successful university club in recent years in developing players who go on to represent their country at senior level.

Paul McPate, Assistant Director of the University's Institute of Sports and Exercise, said Sunday would be a proud day for Dundee's sporting community.

"Suzi, Laura and Annabel have all done exceptionally well to achieve full international honours and I hope as many people as possible take the opportunity to go to Mayfield and roar them, and the rest of the side on," he said.

"They follow in the footsteps of Cara D'Silva, Sarah Gill and Katy Green, who have all made their Scotland debut in the past five years. We are very proud of them and look forward to celebrating more success for women's rugby here at Dundee in the future."

The match takes place at Mayfield Sports Ground, Arbroath Road at 2pm on Sunday.
