DJCAD Degree Show wins Best Educational Event accolade

The record-breaking 2013 Degree Show at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) has received a major events industry prize in recognition of the exhibition's success.

The DJCAD Degree Show, Dundee's largest annual art exhibition was named Best Educational Event at the UK Event Awards ceremony at Montcalm Hotel, London. Around 12,500 visitors flocked to the show in May, breaking the previous record attendance and generating an estimated £1.5million for the local economy in the process.

The week-long exhibition shows off the final-year projects of students at DJCAD, part of the University of Dundee. Almost 300 of the UK's most talented young artists and designers exhibited at the Degree Show, attracting the interest of gallery owners, private collectors and other industry professionals.

The awards were attended by over 300 event professionals from all over the UK. Judges considered all aspects of the Degree Show and other nominees, including marketing, organisation and delivery, before declaring it to be Best Education Event.

Jeanette Paul, Acting Dead of DJCAD, said, 'I wish to congratulate all students and staff who helped make this year's Degree Show such a success. This award is testament to the hard work of so many people.

'The quality of all aspects of the Degree Show was outstanding, so this is great recognition for the work of academic and support staff in creating the perfect showcase for students, who once again proved themselves the equal of any graduating artists and designers in the country.'

This is the second time in three years that the DJCAD Degree Show has won the title of UK's Best Education Event. Other awards in recent years include:

  • 2009 Scottish Event Awards - Educational Event of the Year
  • 2011 Scottish Event Awards - Commended for Best Marketing Strategy
  • 2012 Scottish Event Awards - Best Marketing Strategy
