Researchers set to light up Bright Club

Bright Club returns to Dundee next week, with Schrodinger's Cat, Economics and Acute Engineering among the unlikely subjects of mirth to be covered as more academics take to the stage to deliver their stand-up routines.

Bright Club Dundee #6 takes place from 7.30pm at Braes, Perth Road, on Tuesday, 30th April. Livewire and razor-sharp compere Susan Morrison will introduce the six researchers who will be revealing the hilarious side of their work during two hours of fresh and inventive stand-up.

Bright Club is a movement established by scholars whose thirst for knowledge led them to hypothesise what might happen if research and comedy were mixed and left to ferment in front of an audience.

Dr Jon Urch, Public Engagement Co-ordinator at the University of Dundee and event organiser, said, "There's a stereotype of a stuffy academic that we want to dispel. Humour has an important role to play in communicating research to a lay audience, and making people laugh is a fun way to make people think differently about research."

All academics taking part in the next Bright Club show - Suzanne McEndoo, Michelle Lim, Alan Kelly, Graeme Walker, David Yawson and Ariel Bergmann - have received training from professional comedians ahead of their stage debut.

Tickets, costing £5, will be available at the door or can be booked in advance by visiting http://tiny.cc/BrightClub6, emailing brightclubdundee@gmail.com or calling 01382 386669. More information is available by visiting www.brightclubdundee.org or www.facebook.com/brightclubdundee.
