BBC Political Editor Nick Robinson, renowned Middle East correspondent Jeremy Bowen, best-selling sci-fi author Iain M Banks, and multi-award winning writer Colm Tobin are among the big names taking part in this year's Festival.

The 2012 Dundee Literary Festival is the biggest to date, with a total of 42 events scheduled to take place from October 24th-28th. This includes the annual Dundee Comics Day, which this year features the Scottish author Grant Morrison, writer of Superman, Batman and X-Men, as its star guest.

Other leading figures from the world of fiction, poetry, journalism and the publishing industry will take part in a series of workshops, talks, book signings, and readings.

Dundee Literary Festival director Anna Day said she was delighted that the event continued to attract star names from the world of literature.

"We've put together a programme with the intention of appealing to as many people as possible, so whether you're into crime writing, thrillers, non-fiction, sci-fi or any other genre you care to mention, check out the range of events taking place," she said.

"We're now in our sixth year, and the reputation of the Dundee Literary Festival is growing all the time. It's the largest such event taking place locally, and we are very excited about the line-up of world class literary talent we're bringing to Dundee.

"Staff from the University of Dundee's Creative Writing programme will be offering assistance at events aimed at aspiring poets and novelists, and we are sure this group will be inspired by the exciting series of salons, workshops and talks designed to appeal to book lovers and inspire the next generation of writers."

Other authors set to appear include novelists Alan Warner and Christopher Brookmyre, Scots maker Liz Lochead, and Gregory's Girl star John Gordon Sinclair, who has just released his debut novel.

Football writing - both fact and fiction - will be discussed by Rodge Glass, Graham Hunter and Richard Wilson, while whisky writer Ian Buxton will be recommending 101 Whiskies To Try Before You Die.

Newport author Zoe Venditozzi, a product of the University's MLitt Creative Writing course, will be discussing her debut novel, while the winner of the 2011 Dundee International Book Prize will also be announced during the Festival.
