'Learning from Leonardo' - Dundee Arts Cafe, Tuesday, 2nd October

The lasting influence of Leonardo da Vinci on medical and anatomical art will be explored at the next Dundee Arts Café event.

Caroline Erolin from the University of Dundee's Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification (CAHID) will give an overview of the history of medical and anatomical art before looking at da Vinci's contribution to these fields and his legacy at The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery and Museum on Tuesday, 2nd October.

Her talk, 'Learning from Leonardo: The lasting influence of Leonardo da Vinci on Medical and Anatomical Art' is free and open to all. The event coincides with the 'Ten Drawings by Leonardo da Vinci: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration from the Royal Collection' exhibition at The McManus.

Event organiser Dr Jon Urch said, "Caroline will begin examining da Vinci's influence on medical and anatomical art by looking at where these fields are today and to what extent this is down to his pioneering work.

"We will look at who Leonardo da Vinci was and why he has come to be known as the archetypal Renaissance man before asking what future students can learn from this great master."

Following the event the audience will be able to view the da Vinci exhibition with the insights gained from the talk still fresh in their minds.

The McManus is the only Scottish venue hosting the 'Ten Drawings by Leonardo da Vinci' exhibition, which is open until November 4th.

Dundee Arts Café is a programme of talks showcasing arts research and developments taking place locally. The series is organised by the Universities of Dundee and Abertay, and Dundee City Council's Leisure & Culture department.

These events enable members of the public to relax and discuss the arts, from English to History, Philosophy to Architecture, and Fine Art to Product Design, with some of the leading practitioners carrying out work in these areas in Dundee.

The events last one hour, and speakers talk passionately about their work for 30 minutes before the floor is opened up to an informal discussion with the audience. All talks take place in The McManus Café, Albert Square, Dundee.

'Learning from Leonardo: The lasting influence of Leonardo da Vinci on Medical and Anatomical Art' takes place at 6pm on Tuesday, 2nd October. Limited seating means visitors are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.
