Packed weekend at Literary Festival

No less than 20 events will take place as Dundee's biggest celebration of all forms of literature continues this weekend.

The 2012 Dundee Literary Festival moves to the weekend section of its run with appearances from the likes of Jeremy Bowen, Sally Magnusson, John Gordon Sinclair, and Iain M. Banks.

This year's Dundee Comics Day, which pays tribute to industry legend Grant Morrison, also takes place as does a two-hour workshop on creating comics delivered by Dave Gibbons, the co-creator of Watchmen and one of the world's most respected comics artists

Poet Liz Lochhead will be providing a treat for lovers of the verse, while a McGonagall writing competition will give people a chance to imitate in the inimitable. A range of events for sports and fitness fans will take place, and young book lovers will be able to meet with some of the best-loved children's authors.

Alistair Moffat will be delving deep into the nation's ancestry by examining Scotland's Genes, while Gavin Francis and Doug Allan will be sharing their experiences of living in the unforgiving Antarctic environment.

"This is the most diverse programme we've ever put together and we're delighted that the weekend schedule provides something for everyone," said Anna Day, Director of the Literary Festival.

"Everything has gone fantastically well so far and the audiences we've been getting for events have been great. I'm sure this will continue over the weekend and the people of Dundee and our visitors from further afield will have a superb time immersing themselves in the line-up."

The event with Alan Spence, scheduled for 1pm on Saturday, has been cancelled due to ill-health. The festival will draw to a close with the appearance of Colm Toibin on Monday, 29th October.

The 2012 Dundee Literary Festival is the biggest to date, with leading figures from the world of fiction, poetry, journalism, comics and the publishing industry taking part in a series of workshops, talks, book signings, and readings.
