Two graduates of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) will be looking to grab the glory at one of the UK's top award ceremonies for emerging filmmakers later this month.

Matt Cameron has been nominated for the 'Best Sci-Fi / Fantasy' award at Screentest: National Student Film Festival, while Rose Hendry will compete in the 'Best Experimental' and 'Best Production Design' categories.

The awards ceremony will take place at London South Bank University on 24th March, and will see Matt and Rose will go up against the cream of the country's student and graduate filmmakers.

Matt (27), originally from Edinburgh, completed his undergraduate Time Based Art & Digital Film degree and MSc Animation & Visualisation course at DJCAD, part of the University of Dundee.

His nominated film, 'Falling out', follows a pregnant woman struggling to find safety after a nuclear blast decimates Scotland.

He said, "I'm absolutely delighted to be nominated, and am hopeful of winning the award, although the competition is tough. The other films are fantastic, and it's great just to be recognised at this level.

"Although Falling Out deals with a cataclysmic event, it is a close-knit interpersonal story rather than conventional disaster movie. The central relationships form a survival triangle rather than a love triangle, and people are forced into making decisions they wouldn't have dreamt of before the shelter of civilization fell away."

Rose (23) from Dunshalt, Fife graduated from the Time Based Art & Digital Film programme at DJCAD in 2011. Two of her films have been nominated for Screentest awards - 'Bird Bath' for Best Experimental film, and 'Chips & Cherryade' for Best Production Design.

Bird Bath is a playful short film, which toys with the relationship between what we see and hear on screen. It is under one minute long, and was one of five short films that made up Rose's degree show last year. Chips & Cherryade also featured in the Degree Show exhibit, and begins with an observations of a regular culinary ritual before an unexpected development breaks the cinematic language setup down.

"It's fantastic to be nominated in two categories, and for two different films," she said. "One of my other degree show films 'Egg & Fag' has been a great success at internationally renowned festivals, so it's fantastic that these other two films have been nominated for awards. Both Bird Bath and Chips & Cherryade have a narrative of sorts but both have an experimental approach to cinematic language.

"It's a great reward for everyone who worked tremendously hard on these productions, especially cinematographer Ian Forbes - also a graduate of Time Based Art & Digital Film - who both myself and Matt have worked with on all our productions to date. We're lucky to have such talented people to call on and we'll continue to work with them."

Screentest is dedicated to the exhibition and promotion of aspiring British talent. Founded at Bristol University in 2004, it has become an important platform for student filmmakers in celebrating of the very best in student filmmaking from around the country.

The 2012 Festival will be held at London South Bank University from 23rd-25th March. Workshops and talks with industry professionals will take place in addition to the exhibition of student work. The awards will be presented on 24th March
