'Fertility and Lifestyle' - Cafe Science event on 24th June

The final Cafe Science event of the 2012-13 series will see a fertility expert from the University of Dundee discuss how lifestyle choices can affect conception.

As part of an Infertility Network Scotland project, Dr Sarah Martins Da Silva, a Clinical Lecturer in Reproductive Medicine and a consultant at the Dundee Assisted Conception Unit, will be talking at Chambers Coffee House & Restaurant on Monday, June 24th.

The event will explore the latest research and evidence supporting the idea that lifestyle can have a profound impact on the chances of conceiving, both naturally and through fertility treatment.

Sarah Murphy of Infertility Network Scotland said, 'The Scottish Government has recently announced new measures to bring NHS-funded fertility treatment across Scottish Health Boards into line. While this is good news for some, other patients will be excluded from treatment based on their lifestyles.

'In an age where so much emphasis is placed on sex education and contraception, are we really educated about our fertility and the true meaning of family planning?'

The monthly Cafe Science events take the form of informal discussions led by leading local researchers that allow members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the ground-breaking science happening in Dundee. The programme was launched in January 2008, and more than 4500 people have participated in the events since then.

'Fertility and Lifestyle - How lifestyle choices can affect conception' takes place at Chambers Coffee House and Restaurant, South Tay Street, at 7pm on Monday, 24th June. Entry is free and open to all. Seating is limited so attendees are advised to arrive early.
