£1000 donation to honour Broughty Ferry mother

Photo opportunity: 10am on Tuesday, 18th December at Ninewells Hospital reception area.

Two brothers who lost their mother to dementia will tomorrow present researchers from the University of Dundee with a cheque for £1000.

Alastair and Graham Scott will meet with staff from the Alzheimer’s Research Centre at Ninewells Hospital at 10am on Tuesday, 18th December. Their mother, Betty Scott, widow of the late Hubert Scott, died in October after suffering from the disease for the last four years of her life.

The brothers will hand over the money, raised through a collection held at Betty’s funeral, before touring the labs of Professor Mike Ashford and Dr John Sharkey, researchers studying the role of metabolism and molecular mechanisms in degenerative brain diseases.

Alastair explained, "Having seen the devastating impact of dementia first hand, we wanted to do something to honour our mother and to help others who will be affected by this disease.

"It was important for us that the money stays locally and we were glad to be able to support the work being carried out here."
