V&A at Dundee: Scottish Government announcement welcomed

Today's announcement from the Scottish Government of continued support for the V&A at Dundee has been welcomed by the project team.

Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs, said the Scottish Government would see through its commitment to provide substantial financial support for the construction costs of the V&A at Dundee, which she said would make a huge cultural contribution to Scotland and help regenerate Dundee.

In response to the Scottish Government announcement, Philip Long, Director of the V&A at Dundee, said, "I am excited and very pleased that the Scottish Government is showing such confidence in the project and committing to its continued support.

"Funding from the Scottish Government is a vital component of support for the V&A at Dundee. Not only does it give us direct support but it is also key in helping us attract further investment from the both the public and private sector. We are working very hard on our wider fundraising efforts and this is an extremely significant boost."

Lesley Knox, Chair of Design Dundee Ltd, the company delivering the V&A at Dundee project, said, "The support of the Scottish Government is absolutely key to the future of the V&A at Dundee and I am delighted that they are committed to helping us deliver this for Dundee and Scotland."

The V&A at Dundee is being delivered by Design Dundee Ltd, a ground-breaking partnership between the Victoria and Albert Museum - the world’s greatest museum of art and design - and Dundee City Council, the Universities of Dundee and Abertay Dundee, and Scottish Enterprise.
