Staff and students get set to square off once again

Photo opportunity: 6pm on Wednesday, 5th October at Dundee University Students Association. The fourth annual staff v students University Challenge will take place.

He's already turned himself into Hannibal Lecter, Hermann Goring and the Reverend William Stryker, and Hollywood star Brian Cox is set to fill another terrifying role tonight when he plays the part of Jeremy Paxman.

The Dundee University Rector will fill the role of the notoriously forthright and combative TV host when he acts as question master during Dundee’s fourth annual staff v students University Challenge evening.

The past three events have been a great success, and have helped raise a substantial sum of money for worthwhile causes. This year’s Challenge will take place at Dundee University Students Association at 6pm on Wednesday, 5th October and will raise money for Radio Tay’s Cash for Kids appeal.

The student team will be looking to extract revenge on the staff side, having suffered two consecutive reverses. The students clinched a close victory in the original University Challenge, but have been on the wrong end of heavy defeats since then.

The team will be led by DUSA President Iain Kennedy, who said, 'After two consecutive defeats the student team are looking for revenge. We have a strong team from a range of disciplines and are looking forward to putting the staff through their paces on stage.

'All joking aside this event is part of DUSA's RAG week so both teams are doing this for a great cause, Cash for Kids.'

The staff team will be captained by University Secretary Dr Jim McGeorge. Having masterminded the two previous victories, Dr McGeorge said he was confident of another win for staff.

'We’ll have to check the rules to see if we get to keep the students if we win for a third time,' he said. 'Experience has won over youth twice but we’re a year older now and can only hope that we’ve kept our sharpness.

'This is a really fun event, and one that brings staff and students together to raise money for a good cause. We’re all looking forward to it, and also to seeing Brian Cox in the chair.'

As part of DUSA's RAG week, all money raised will be donated to Cash for Kids. Cash for Kids delivers initiatives for sick and underprivileged children. With cash raised and donated locally, each charity guarantees that generous donations will go to bring, hope, healing or happiness to a child in local areas.

The event will be followed by a drinks reception.
