'Wild Vision' to be revealed in Dundee

Acclaimed nature, travel and adventure photographer John Beatty will share images and stories from his 25 years of assignments to 38 different countries at the University of Dundee next week.

He will deliver the latest in the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s Inspiring People talks programme at the D’Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre from 7.30pm on Tuesday, 6th December.

John Beatty has been widely hailed as one of the world's most exciting and stimulating photographers in recent years. He has dedicated his life to capturing the magnificence of the natural environment through his lens and has travelled extensively to do so.

His audio-visual presentation, entitled ‘Wild Vision’ will infuse his audiences with energy and wonder at the beauty of our planet. Images and footage from the ferocious volcanic eruptions in Iceland, the great migrations of the Serengeti, and the beauty of his native Peak District all feature in his fascinating talk.

John Beatty’s work is chiefly concerned with the timeless rhythms of the natural environment, its beauty and simplicity, and man's place within it. Major expeditions include seven months spent in Antarctica, a winter in Spitzbergen, and a four hundred-mile traverse of the Greenland Icecap.

He has spent time in the Himalayas, Pacific Islands, East Africa, American Deserts, Galapagos Islands, Andes, Namibia, Alaska, and the European Alps among other spectacular locations. He has also photographed almost all the woodland locations in Britain from the windswept tors of Cornwall to the white strands of the Outer Hebrides.

Sir Chris Bonington described John Beatty’s work as being 'a superb creative experience', while Outdoor Photography Magazine said 'Beatty's photographs are truly outstanding, capturing the natural world in all its beauty and magnificence.'

John Beatty’s talk Wild Vision will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday, December 6th 2011 in the D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre, Tower Building, University of Dundee.

Tickets are free for RSGS members, and cost £8 for non-member adults, and £2 for students (redeemable if buying membership), and are available on the night from the venue.
