"Underwater" presentation to help club mark anniversary

Renowned underwater photographer Mike Clark will help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Dundee University Sub-Aqua Club when he visits the city to talk about his work next week.

Mike has been taking underwater shots since 1987 and regularly contributes photo-journalistic articles for a range of publications. He has won awards for his work, featured on BBC radio, and recently had the book "Wrecks and reefs of Southeast Scotland" published.

His presentation, taking place at Dundee University Students Association on Tuesday, 22nd March, will feature a slideshow of the spectacular images he has captured during his career. These include many from his book as well as other shots of stunning marine life and shipwrecks captured around the coast of Scotland.

Dundee University Sub-Aqua Club was formed in 1971, and arranges several dives around Scotland each year. With a membership of more than 30, the club celebrates its Ruby Anniversary in good health and has organised a series of events to recognise the landmark.

Members will shortly visit Egypt to experience the fantastic diving opportunities to be enjoyed on the prestigious ‘wrecks and reefs’ tour, and are planning to dive a total of 40 wrecks this year.

Event Organiser Vicky McGuire said Mike Clark’s visit was a chance for anyone with an interest in diving to find out more.

'Mike Clark has become one of the country’s foremost underwater photographers and his presentation will showcase underwater life in Scotland,' she said.

'I'm sure it will make for a fascinating evening, and gives all of us underwater enthusiasts the chance to come together to celebrate the club’s anniversary. I’d also like to encourage as many people as possible with an interest in this area to attend the event. I’m sure they’ll get a lot out of it.'

Mike Clark’s presentation will be held in DUSA (Level 4 Carnegie Suite) at 6pm on Tuesday, 22nd March. Tickets, costing £2, include the chance to win a copy of "Wrecks and reefs of Southeast Scotland", and are available on the door or from club members in advance. The author will also be signing copies of the book after the event.
