Developing the Creative Economy - lecture, Glasgow School of Art, Feb 1st

Professor Jeremy Peat, Director of the David Hume Institute, will deliver a public lecture on the prospects for and importance of the creative sector in Scotland, at an event to mark the arrival in Glasgow of the V&A at Dundee architectural exhibition.

The V&A at Dundee will have an important impact on Scotland, through both cultural and economic regeneration. With this in mind, Professor Peat will explore the prospects for and importance of the creative sector in Scotland. He will do this against the backdrop of an evolving global scene, including uncertainties related to some key sectors in Scotland. He will also address existing support for the design sector given the advent of Creative Scotland and policy developments at Scottish Enterprise.

The lecture will take place on 1st Feb at 6:30pm in the Bourdon Lecture Theatre at Glasgow School of Art. Admission is free. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to register their interest at events@dundee.ac.uk

Professor Peat is Director of the David Hume Institute and a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland. He is a member of the Competition Commission and was a BBC Trustee 2007-2010. Professor Peat has also worked as an economist for various UK Government departments.

The V&A at Dundee Architectural Exhibition will run at The Lighthouse in Glasgow in partnership with Architecture and Design Scotland from 1st - 18th February 2011. The exhibition has been running in the Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood for the past two weeks, following a hugely successful showing in Dundee last year when around 15,000 people visited it.

The exhibition showcases the six shortlisted designs from the international architectural competition for the V&A at Dundee. They include the winning design from Japanese architectural practice Kengo Kuma & Associates.
