'The Future of Language Teaching at University' - conference today, 4th April

The future of language teaching at universities and how better integration can be achieved between secondary and higher education is being discussed at a conference at the University of Dundee today.

Around 30 languages teachers, lecturers and associated professionals are attending the event, which is organised by the Subject Centre for Languages and Related Studies (Southampton) and UCMLS, University Council for Modern Languages Scotland.

'Languages is a key area of education which offers great value to our society as a whole,' said Marion Sporing, of the Communication and Language Studies department at the University of Dundee.

'Our conference today is exploring the value of wider value of languages education, what languages we need to be teaching and the markets for them, and how we can manage progression for students through languages teaching across Scottish education.'

Speakers at the conference include Professor James Foreman-Peck, from Cardiff Business School, representatives from the Universities of Aberdeen, Stirling and Southampton, and the Scottish Qualifications Authority

The conference is being held in the Matthew Building at the University.
