Arbroath Abbey will be the location for the signing of a new partnership agreement between Historic Scotland and the University of Dundee’s Continuing Education department on Tuesday September 21st.

Professor Christopher Whatley, Vice-Principal of the University and one of Scotland’s leading historians, will sign the agreement along with Doreen Grove from Historic Scotland.

The partnership will increase opportunities for adult learners attending Continuing Education classes to access the resources managed by Historic Scotland.

'The University is delighted to enter into this partnership with Historic Scotland, which will enable us to extend the range of learning opportunities offered to lifelong learners,' said Professor Whatley.

'It will also help ensure all our relevant course content is of an excellent standard by collaborating with Historic Scotland.'

Doreen Grove, Head of Understanding and Access at Historic Scotland, said, 'We are delighted to be in partnership with the University of Dundee. This project is a wonderful way of increasing the opportunities for adult learners to have access to our sites and resources.

'Both organisations recognise the value of providing this access to Historic Scotland sites, many of which are icons of Scottish culture. The arrangement will provide additional facilities such as expert tours linked to coursework extending the range of learning.'

The partnership will be supported by Historic Scotland and Continuing Education jointly agreeing a range of educational visits to sites of relevance to the Courses for Adults programme at Dundee on an annual basis.

Continuing Education at Dundee offers over 160 courses covering a wide range of subjects including arts and social sciences, art and design, life sciences and computing.
