Video podcast business advice for students
The University of Dundee and local jewellery designers Lorraine Law, Kyley Campbell and Holly Wilcox have come together to record a video podcast for university students.
The film offers advice to students on setting up in business after graduation.
Karen Sleith, Employer Marketing Manager with the University of Dundee Careers Service explains. "The idea is to offer business advice to students from designers who have successfully set up their own business. This is real-life expert advice with an aim to getting students started in business"
The three designers taking part are at different stages of developing their own business and offered different views for the budding entrepreneurs.
Award winning jewellery designer Lorraine Law believes it is important to retain graduate talent in Dundee. "We are working with the University of Dundee on a number of initiatives to help retain our design talent in Dundee. We are all delighted that the V&A at Dundee is coming in 2014, and will create an international design hub for Scotland. We are working as hard as possible now to help build that process by keeping our current talent in the city"
Kyley Campbell graduated in 2005 and has successfully built her own business, supplying galleries throughout the UK as well as directly to the public. "It is difficult for graduates to get their business ideas moving and I wanted to pass on as much advice as possible to help".
Holly Wilcox is a recent graduate of 2010, as well as Lorraine Law's Designer of the Year. "Although I am a recent graduate, the last few months have been an intensive learning experience from me. I wanted to pass on ideas for where to get support and help, as it's sometimes not easy knowing where to find information".
The video podcasts will be available on the University's website by the end of the year.
