V&A at Dundee - design winner to be announced

The winner of the design competition for the V&A at Dundee will be announced at a press conference on Wednesday November 3rd.
Six designs for the V&A at Dundee have been on display at an exhibition in the city for the past month. The exhibition has attracted over 13,000 visitors and generated a huge amount of feedback and discussion.
The announcement of the winner will be made at 11.30 am on Wednesday November 3rd in the exhibition space at the University of Abertay Dundee library.
Lesley Knox, Chair of Design Dundee Ltd, will reveal the winning design team. Representatives of the partners in Design Dundee Ltd - the Victoria & Albert Museum, the University of Dundee, the University of Abertay Dundee, Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise - will be present and available for comment.
The six shortlisted companies who have featured in the exhibition are:
- Delugan Meissl Associated Architects
- Kengo Kuma & Associates
- REX
- Snøhetta
- Steven Holl Architects
- Sutherland Hussey Architects
They were shortlisted from more than 120 entries to an international design competition.
The winning team will work with the local partners in Dundee to develop a landmark building for the V&A at Dundee. It is projected work on the building will begin in autumn 2012.
The V&A at Dundee is looking to create a building which will be sited at Craig Harbour right on the banks of the River Tay. It would be capable of hosting large-scale exhibitions from the V&A and other international collections, and would be Scotland’s leading centre for design.
The site is being made available through the Dundee Central Waterfront Partnership, the joint venture between Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise which is revitalising the prime area of land linking the city centre with the River Tay.
The V&A at Dundee is being delivered by Design Dundee Ltd, a ground-breaking partnership between the Victoria and Albert Museum - the world’s greatest museum of art and design - and the University of Dundee, the University of Abertay Dundee, Dundee City Council and Scottish Enterprise.
