'Behind the Books' - The Dundee Christmas Lecture 2010
Alexander McCall Smith, one of the world’s favourite and most prolific authors, will deliver this year’s Dundee Christmas Lecture.
Taking place at the University of Dundee’s Dalhousie Building on Friday, 3rd December, the event will see the esteemed novelist converse with award-winning author Jamie Jauncey about the life and work of a writer.
He will also discuss his latest titles - The Importance of Being Seve (part of the 44 Scotland Street series) and The Charming Quirks of Others (Isobel Dalhousie series), and his favourite characters from his work - be they from Botswana, Edinburgh, or the streets of Pimlico.
Anna Day, Director of Literary Dundee, who are helping to organise the event, said, 'Alexander McCall Smith is one of the leading lights in the international literary world and we're delighted he's going to be celebrating the start of the festive season with us in Dundee.
'It'll be a real treat to hear Alexander discuss his work with Jamie Jauncey.'
The former law professor is the author of more than 30 novels, numerous short stories, and many children's books. He has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide to date.
The event takes place from 6pm on Friday, 3rd December, and is free, and open to all. A drinks reception will follow the lecture, and Alexander McCall Smith will also be signing copies of his books afterwards. Please note that overflow theatres may be in operation.
The Christmas lecture is held in conjunction with Dundee City Council and was inaugurated in 2007 to commemorate the University's 40th anniversary and its close relationship with the city of Dundee and its people.
Tickets for this lecture are available from the University's online store, Tower Building Reception, by calling 01382 385564 or by emailing events@dundee.ac.uk.
