Dozens of University of Dundee students from around the world will mark the end of their time in the city with a party to be held ahead of next week’s Graduation celebrations.
The annual International Student Reception will take place at Campus Green from 5pm-7pm on Monday, June 21st. More than 100 students and family members are expected to attend the event, which is organised by the University’s International Advice Service.
The Graduation ceremonies, which take place from Tuesday 22nd - Friday 25th June, will see thousands of students, many of them from overseas, receive degrees and postgraduate qualifications.
The University is home to an ever-increasing and thriving international community of staff and students from more than 100 countries and their importance to the economic wellbeing, cultural diversity and vibrancy of the city is well recognised.
International Advice Service Manager Susan Scott said the University was immensely proud that parents and friends take the time, trouble and expense to travel long distances to see their loved ones graduate.
'This event is one of the highlights of the year, where staff across the campus take pleasure in celebrating with our students and their families from around the world, and wishing them success as they embark on a new journey,' she said.
'We are delighted to be able to provide a dedicated support and advice service to our international students throughout their time at university. From a warm welcome on arrival through to graduation, many students take advantage of the social and cultural events and trips planned throughout the year, visiting host families from our local hospitality schemes and much more.
'Getting to know our students and contributing towards their positive experiences of studying in Dundee is very rewarding. All their hard work and efforts have paid off this week and we are delighted to share this special occasion with them.'
Graduating international students and their guests will arrive at Campus Green at 5pm. Professor Pete Downes, Principal of the University, will congratulate them on their achievements and talk about the crucial role that international students play in life at the University.
Mamadou Bah from the Republic of Guinea, who is graduating with an LLM from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy, will then give a vote of thanks on behalf of the students before the attendees are treated to a programme of entertainment including performances by an Indian dance group and the vocal group Loadsaweeminsinging.
