Alexander McCall Smith, one of the world’s favourite and most prolific authors, will deliver this year’s Dundee Christmas Lecture on Friday.
Taking place at the University of Dundee’s Dalhousie Building, the event will see the esteemed novelist converse with award-winning author Jamie Jauncey about the life and work of a writer.
He will also discuss his latest titles - The Importance of Being Seven (part of the 44 Scotland Street series) and The Charming Quirks of Others (Isobel Dalhousie series), and his favourite characters from his work - be they from Botswana, Edinburgh, or the streets of Pimlico.
The former law professor is the author of more than 30 novels, numerous short stories, and many children's books. He has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide to date.
The event takes place from 6pm on Friday, 3rd December, and is free, and open to all. A drinks reception will follow the lecture, and Alexander McCall Smith will also be signing copies of his books afterwards. Please note that overflow theatres may be in operation.
Prior to the lecture, Alexander McCall Smith will be welcomed to Dundee by Professor Pete Downes, Principal of the University, and Councillor Ian Borthwick, Depute Lord Provost.
The Christmas lecture is held in conjunction with Dundee City Council and was inaugurated in 2007 to commemorate the University's 40th anniversary and its close relationship with the city of Dundee and its people.
