Students take on national volleyball stars
The Institute of Sport and Exercise at the University of Dundee will host the Scottish Student Volleyball Challenge this Sunday, pitting the best varsity players against the full international squads.
This annual event sees the Scottish Universities Team (comprising the best players from within Scottish Universities) compete against the Scottish Senior National Team, featuring the top players in the sport in the country.
Dundee University’s growing success and reputation in volleyball is reflected in the fact that an impressive eight students (five men and three women) have been selected for the Scottish Universities teams for the competition on Sunday. The university club has once again enjoyed an outstanding season, with the men winning the Scottish Universities League and Cup double (and the Sports Union Team of the Year award) and the women winning the British Universities Trophy.
'The Scottish Universities teams have a good record in this event in recent years, running their more illustrious opponents close on a couple of occasions and the strength of the student game should be evident once again this Sunday,” said Paul McPate, Assistant Director of the Institute of Sport and Exercise.
The competition starts at 10.00am in the Institute on Old Hawkhill and admission for spectators is free.
