Inspiring tales from women who broke through the "glass ceiling"

Career progression, leadership, the work-life balance, and the “glass-ceiling problem” are among the issues facing women in science and engineering to be discussed at a workshop afternoon later this week.

The University of Dundee will host the ‘Women in Science and Engineering: Inspiring Perspectives from Academia and Industry’ event between 3pm-5pm on Thursday, September 10th.

Leading female scientists and engineers from across industry and academia will share their experiences of overcoming the challenges particular to women working in science and engineering and discuss what can be done to attract more women into these fields and progress to the top of their chosen professions.

The main speakers are:
Professor Ursula Keller, Head of Research, ETH Zurich.
Gameelah Gafoor, Global Project Manager, NCR, Dundee.
Professor Inke Nathke, University of Dundee.

A question-and-answer session and panel discussion will follow the talks. The event takes place at the University’s Dalhousie Building, and admission is free.

“This will be an informal event where the audience will have the opportunity to engage and ask questions to our guest speakers, who are truly inspirational scientists and engineers,” commented Dr. Maria Cataluna, one of the event organisers.

“We will discuss issues that ultimately affect everyone, and so we hope that male engineers and scientists will also participate in the meeting – particularly those that are interested in improving the gender balance in their groups and organisations. Everyone is welcome.”

‘Women in Science and Engineering: Inspiring Perspectives from Academia and Industry’ is jointly organised by the Gender Awareness Group, FAST-DOT Project, and the University’s College of Art, Science & Engineering.
