DCA showcase for Dundee graduates

Films produced by graduating students from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design will be screened at a unique showcase event taking place at Dundee Contemporary Arts this weekend.

In all, 16 short films made by students from a range of undergraduate programmes will be shown at the free screenings, which take place at 12pm and 1.30pm on Saturday, June 6th.

This is the first time that a curated screening of work by students at DJCAD, part of the University of Dundee, has taken place at DCA.

In addition to moving image work from graduates of the Animation and Time Based Art and Digital Film courses, short films, idents and experimental pieces from Fine Art, Interior and Environmental Design, and Jewellery and Metalwork students will be shown.

The films, ranging from 50 seconds to 19 minutes in length, have been chosen to create an eclectic mix that reflects the diverse and innovative ways in which digital film is utilised by students across the various art and design disciplines practiced at DJCAD.

Lecturer in Media Arts & Imaging at DJCAD,Tracey McConnell-Wood, said that digital film is a very flexible medium which students use in diverse and innovative ways.

'Gathered together in this showcase screening are animation shorts, narrative and experimental films ranging greatly in style and subject matter as well as duration,' she said.

'The common element between them is that they will all benefit from being seen on the cinema screen and DCA has provided the students with this great opportunity to see and show their work in this context.'

The students work is currently exhibited at the 2009 Dundee Degree Show, held for the first time at Vision Building in Seabraes, which runs until Saturday, June 6th.
