Cheque Presentation for £250 towards the University of Dundee Diabetes Research Campaign

(Please report at Bell Street entrance and ask for Liz Cant, Customer Services Manager (ext 2806)).

Staff at BT Telephone House recently held two fundraising events in aid of the University of Dundee's Diabetes Research Campaign. Donations received over the two 'theme' days - July 4th Celebrations and a Healthy Eating day - totalled £250.

Liz Cant, Customer Services Manager for BT, said her team thoroughly enjoyed the fundraising events and were keen to support a local cause which is close to the heart of several team members who have personal experience of the disease.

Rebecca McSherry from the Diabetes Research Campaign was delighted to receive the cheque on behalf of her colleagues at the University.

'The University of Dundee Diabetes Research Campaign hopes to raise £3.3m towards state of the art research and patient care facilities needed to explore new treatments and to accelerate more effective drug discoveries,' said Rebecca.

'There are more people with diabetes than cancer, yet diabetes research receives less than 5% of the funding that is spent on cancer research. Improved drugs to prevent and/or treat diabetes are needed urgently and this donation from BT will help us reach this goal.'
