Grant set to help African country
A 360,000 grant will enable Dundee to help one of Africa's least developed and poorest nations improve its health-care system. The school of nursing and midwifery at Dundee University ha been awarded the grant to work with the National University of Lesotho.

League table predicts RAE frontrunners
Universities are approaching the 2008 research assessment exercise (RAE) starting post, with the final hurdle - the deadline for submissions on November 30 - looming. The universities of Dundee, Edinburgh and Leeds also feature in the leader board. Dundee and St George's, University of London, come top in terms of the impact of research papers (though the overall number published is far less than that of the golden diamond).

In the pink for charity
From professional footballers to professors, people across Dundee were in the pink today to raise cash for Breast Cancer Research. The Wear It Pink day is the biggest event during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since its launch it has raised £6.6 million. Breast cancer researchers from Dundee University also donned pink clothing and wigs to work.

No real alternative to oil: Rise in demand seems unavoidable
During the early 1930s, when oil prospecting in the Gulf was in its infancy, George Lees, chief geologist for the Anglo Persian Oil Company, proclaimed that he would drink all the commercial oil that might be discovered in Bahrain. In recent years, Bahrain has produced around 185,000 barrels a day - modest by regional standards, but not easy to drink. Paul Stevens, professor at the University of Dundee is quoted.
